The meeting was part of COSYFOP’s ongoing efforts to promote the implementation of recommendations issued by the ILO’s supervisory bodies and strengthen respect for fundamental trade union rights and freedoms in Algeria.

COSYFOP reiterates that respect for freedom of association is an obligation under the international conventions ratified by Algeria and calls for full implementation of the recommendations issued by the ILO’s supervisory bodies. The Confederation reaffirms its commitment to pursuing its efforts with the ILO and its relevant bodies to ensure that these recommendations lead to concrete measures that uphold freedom of association, protect the rights of workers and their representatives, and enable independent trade unions to operate freely, without interference, restrictions or intimidation.

Freedom of association is a right. Upholding it is an obligation.
