Trade Union Confederation of Productive Forces (COSYFOP)
The second officially recognised national trade union confederation in Algeria, established against the backdrop of decades of trade union monopoly that denied workers genuine pluralism and imposed a single organisation to represent them without their consent since independence. Our mission is fundamentally emancipatory: independent trade union decision-making, genuine grassroots action, and uncompromising social justice.
A Legacy of Struggle in the Face of Silence and Suspension
Founding
COSYFOP was established under Law No. 90-14 and officially registered under No. 30. From its inception, it has championed an emancipatory vision of trade unionism rooted in independence, genuine grassroots action, and social justice.
A Forced Halt, Not Dissolution
COSYFOP was forced to suspend its activities because of the security and political conditions that affected all forms of organised civic life. However, its founding national executive never dissolved the Confederation. Instead, it preserved its legal existence and refused to surrender or allow it to be absorbed.
Renewal of Governing Bodies
The torch was passed to a new generation of young activists and trade unionists committed to carrying the struggle forward: freeing trade unionism from political control, breaking the monopoly of a single national confederation, and paving the way for genuine trade union pluralism.
Statement Announcing the Resumption of Activities — 2 September 2018
In this statement, a group of young activists and trade unionists announced the renewal of the Confederation’s governing bodies and the resumption of its trade union activities within a lawful, independent, and organised framework. The document marks COSYFOP’s return after years of enforced silence.
Our Mission
We Are Here to Liberate Trade Unionism

Our union is not for sale. Our voice is not up for negotiation. Our presence is not merely symbolic.
Who Do We Represent?
We are a national trade union confederation made up of independent sectoral unions representing key areas of the economy and public services:
