Text of the Letter Addressed to the President of the Republic

Mr President,

We, the undersigned workers from various sectors, are addressing this collective letter to you to express our concern over the continued decline in purchasing power and the rising cost of living, which have widened the gap between wage levels and the essential expenses borne by Algerian households.

This request is based on a study conducted by the Trade Union Confederation of Productive Forces (COSYFOP) on purchasing power and wages in Algeria. The study examined wage trends, living costs, and the extent to which current wage levels are sufficient to meet basic needs.

In light of the study’s findings regarding the gap between wages and the cost of living, we call for the Guaranteed National Minimum Wage (SNMG) to be raised to DZD 35,000, in order to strengthen workers’ purchasing power and enable them and their families to meet living expenses under conditions that safeguard their dignity.

We also call for this measure to form part of a genuine and inclusive social dialogue with trade union organizations representing workers on wages, purchasing power, and the related social policies.

We respectfully ask you to consider this request and to take the necessary measures to address it.
