Twenty national and international organizations, including the Trade Union Confederation of Productive Forces (COSYFOP), have expressed their solidarity with the activist Mohamed Tadjadit and his detained colleagues, calling for their immediate and unconditional release.
On the eve of the hearings scheduled for 11 and 30 November 2025, the Trade Union Confederation of Productive Forces (COSYFOP) expresses its full solidarity with activist Mohamed Tajadit and calls on the Algerian authorities to drop all unfounded charges against him and his twelve companions and to release them immediately and unconditionally.
Known for his courage and outspokenness since the popular movement of 2019, Tadjadit has become a symbol of peaceful resistance and of the younger generation demanding dignity and social justice. Despite his artistic and literary background, he is now on trial on fabricated and serious charges of “terrorism” and ”conspiracy against the state,” charges that could carry the death penalty, solely because of his poems and critical views.
COSYFOP views this trial as a dangerous escalation in the criminalization of free expression and peaceful activism, and as a warning message to all independent voices in Algeria — including trade unionists, journalists, artists, and human rights defenders.
COSYFOP also stresses that the continuation of such repressive practices is in clear violation of Algeria’s international obligations, particularly those set out in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and in the International Labour Organization conventions guaranteeing freedom of opinion and the right to peaceful association.
COSYFOP calls on all trade union and human rights organizations, both within Algeria and abroad, to join forces and speak out against this alarming misuse of the judiciary to silence independent voices, reaffirming its commitment to continue the struggle for freedom, justice, and human dignity.
