Solidarity statement with the President of the Independent General Confederation of Workers in Algeria in Arabic
Statement of the independent unions in Algeria
Stop harassing union leaders
With deep regret and sorrow, we note yet another government attack on trade union freedoms in Algeria. Ms. Yamina Maghraoui, activist and president of the Independent General Confederation of Algerian Workers (CGTA), has been summoned for questioning before the investigating judge of the second chamber of the National Criminal Pole for Combating Crimes Related to Information and Communication Technologies (ICC) at the Dar El Beida Court in Algiers.
On the other hand, on November 6, 2023, we recorded the extremely poor treatment of veteran activist Ms. Yamina Maghraoui at a police station in the province of Chlef. This severely affected her psychological state and her health, which has deteriorated since that day.
The undersigned independent trade union organizations strongly condemn the ongoing restrictions on the independent trade union movement in Algeria. They also affirm that they will defend leader Yamina Maghraoui with all necessary means, both nationally and internationally. We affirm that the independent trade union movement will remain strong despite all the plots against it, and the genuine will to erase it from the map of civil society in Algeria.
We call on the defense team of honorable lawyers and human rights defenders to stand in a large demonstration on November 13, 2023, before the Criminal Pole, Investigating Judge, Second Chamber, Casablanca Court, at 10:00 a.m., to defend Yamina Maghraoui, President of the Independent General Confederation of Workers in Algeria. We call on the defense team to stand up for trade union freedoms, which are being completely eradicated in Algeria.
Fight, do not get tired, and do not be afraid, for victory is only a matter of patience.
Long live Algeria, glory and immortality to our righteous martyrs.
