As new revelations continue to unfold regarding the case of Algerian Red Crescent President Ibtissam Hamlaoui, and following the allegations brought forward by Yacine Benchattah As new revelations continue to unfold regarding the case of Algerian Red Crescent President Ibtissam Hamlaoui — including serious allegations of mismanagement and diversion of humanitarian aid provided by the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as claims of torture and ill-treatment during detention — concerns are mounting over the respect of human rights and transparency within this sensitive humanitarian institution.

In this context, the Trade Union Confederation of Productive Forces (COSYFOP) issued an urgent statement, stressing that this case provides further evidence of the torture and abuses suffered by Unionist Ali Mammeri during his interrogation in the wilaya of Oum El Bouaghi, while the competent judicial authorities continue to refuse opening an investigation into the official complaint filed against the General Directorate of Internal Security, which stands accused of carrying out these acts of torture against him.

The Confederation further stated that it has initiated legal action against the judge who handed down the unjust 15-year prison sentence against unionist Ali Mammeri, as well as against the public prosecutor who refused to investigate the torture allegations. COSYFOP is calling on the Ministry of Justice and oversight bodies to launch an independent and transparent investigation, ensure the safety of union activists and detainees, and put an end to the persistent pattern of impunity.
