🟠 About us

The Confederation of Productive Forces Trade Unions (COSYFOP) is the second officially recognized trade union confederation in Algeria. It emerged against the backdrop of a long-standing tradition of union dominance that suppressed pluralism and imposed a single central body to represent workers without their consent since independence.

COSYFOP was founded in 1991 under Law 90-14 and registered under number 30. Since its inception, it has pursued a liberationist project in union work, based on independence, field struggle, and social justice.

🟠A Legacy of Struggle in the Face of Silence and Suspension

During the years of the Black Decade, COSYFOP ceased its activities due to the security and political conditions that affected all forms of organized civic and union life. However, the founding National Executive did not dissolve the Confederation. Instead, it preserved its legal status, refusing to surrender or dismantle it. In 2018, the torch was passed to a new generation of young trade unionists who committed themselves to continuing the struggle—towards liberating trade unionism, breaking the monopoly of the single central union, and opening the path to genuine trade union pluralism.

📄 Statement on the Resumption of Activity (2 September 2018)

In this historic statement, dated 2 September 2018, a group of young activists and trade unionists announced the renewal of the organizational structures of the Confederation of Productive Forces Trade Unions (COSYFOP) and the resumption of trade union activity within a legal, independent, and structured framework. This document marks the return of COSYFOP after years of forced silence, reaffirming its commitment to the struggle for pluralism and autonomy.

We are not an extension of old structures. We are a new, independent trade union movement that restores dignity to genuine activists and stands firmly against opportunists and self-serving actors.
Our union is not for sale. Our voice is not negotiable. Our presence is not symbolic.
