Express Confederation of Productive Forces Trade Unions<\/a> (COSEFOB) expresses its deep gratitude to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for his decision to grant amnesty to freedom of expression defenders in Algeria. This announcement is an important step toward national reconciliation and a sign of hope for the many families and individuals who have suffered the consequences of political repression.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

However, we would like to emphasize that this amnesty must include all prisoners, without exception. We call for these measures to include those for whom complaints have not been filed before international bodies or who have not been the subject of reports by UN special rapporteurs, as well as all those who have, in one way or another, expressed an opinion, idea, or position on political, social, or societal issues. It is essential that all voices be heard and that all persons detained in unjust conditions benefit from this amnesty.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We sincerely hope that these releases will be extended to include other prisoners, both men and women, and that they will be accompanied by rehabilitation measures for those whose lives have been severely affected by their years of detention. Freedom of expression advocates are not criminals; they are citizens exercising their fundamental right to freedom of expression.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We also call for an end to measures aimed at restricting the activities of unions, political parties, and individuals. Everyone must have the opportunity to express their opinions, assemble, and fully participate in the country's democratic life. Defending trade union freedoms is essential to building a more just and harmonious society.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We also appeal to the prisoners and families of the remaining prisoners: Do not hesitate to join organizations that can defend your rights before international bodies. In this regard, we reiterate that the doors of KOSEFOP are open to all who wish to fight for individual and collective freedoms. Together, we can create a pressure force for justice and dignity.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We thank the President again for his initiative, which reflects a desire to engage in a genuine national dialogue that supports and strengthens the internal front and enhances Algeria's strength in confronting the challenges surrounding it in light of the current, very complex international circumstances.
